Three things it will never do

The worry with anything automatic is what it might say when you're not looking.

Never invent a priceThe reply sends your packages with the prices you set under Settings → Pricing, and nothing else. It cannot make up a figure, a range or a “starting at”, and it never discounts.

Never make something upIt can only use what's in front of it — their message, their property, their ZIP. It can't invent a service, a date or a promise.

Has the old schomeinspect email

Three things worth deciding before any of these are automated.

1. Ten of them quote a price. Today that's fine — Jeannine is a person, and a person is allowed to quote. The moment they send themselves, the price is being quoted by a machine against a property it has only been told about in a sentence. That's a decision, not a detail.

2. The prices don't always agree. A Gold package is $475 on a townhouse and $450 on a condo, and mold is $499 in OC, $699 in LA and $799 in North LA. That may be exactly right — but it needs to be right on purpose.

3. "Can't service" still signs off with jeannine@schomeinspect.com — the old address that's being retired. That one's just a fix.
